In-clinic whitening: how DIAwhite works and how long it lasts

Before whitening

We check your teeth and gums first. Decay or exposed roots should be treated before whitening, and scaling beforehand helps the gel work evenly. With Korean health insurance, scaling once a year costs only a small co-pay.

The appointment

Your gums are protected, the whitening gel is applied, and a light is used in sets. The visit takes about an hour, so a Monday or Thursday evening slot works well after work.

Sensitivity

Some people feel short, sharp sensitivity for a day or two. We can use a desensitising gel, and avoiding very cold drinks for a day helps.

Keeping the result

  • For 24 to 48 hours, avoid coffee, black tea, red wine, curry and other strongly coloured food.
  • Rinse with water after coloured drinks.
  • Smoking brings back yellow stains quickly.

Crowns and fillings

Whitening works on natural enamel only. If you have front crowns or fillings, they may need replacing afterwards to match. We tell you this before you start.

Questions

Is whitening covered by insurance?

No. Whitening is cosmetic, so we give you the price before treatment. Registered foreign residents get our resident benefit.

Can I whiten if I'm pregnant?

We recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding.

General information, not a diagnosis. Your dentist will advise you after an examination.
